A friend and I were photographing in the winter wonderland when this coyote came walking the roadside one very cold February day in the Lamar Valley at Yellowstone National Park. You can tell from his thick, healthy coat that it has had to face harsh temperatures during the winter. Yellowstone can reach lows of below -20 to -30 degrees and that also is one of the most difficult challenges a photographer faces photographing this beautiful winter landscape. I remember being there for over a week before the temperature warmed up to a high of -4 degrees!
