I got up 5:00am this morning to photograph the sunrise coming up on Lake Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge in eastern North Carolina. I wanted something different than the well-known sunrise image that you always see of Lake Mattamuskeet and a small group of Cypress trees. The moment I drove onto the wildlife refuge I saw the light starting to paint the water golden along the small canal that runs parallel to the refuge road. You can see the thousands of waterfowl dotting the water as the sun begins to light up the landscape. This was the different image I was looking for of the sunrise on Lake Mattamuskett Wildlife Refuge.
