My Favorite Images / Wintry Sliding Rock Pisgah National Forest

This is Sliding Rock on Looking Glass River in western North Carolina. The water temperature on this mountain stream in the summer is just above freezing but, it is a very popular tourist and locals swimming hole. The air temperature today was 18 degrees when I photographed this wintry scene. I don’t think it would have been a very pleasant swimming day!

      1. This image was taken in mid January with the air temperature about 18. I’m sure you can swim in mid-March with air temperatures being much higher but, the water temperature stays about 35/40 degrees in the stream year around. Thank you for your interest in my work.
