This Elk was bugling along the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park. His beautiful large antlers are enhanced in the early morning light with the dark background. During the rutting season the distinctive “bugle” or “whistle” of a bull elk is a challenge to other bulls and a call of domination to cows. Females are attracted to the males that bugle more often and have the loudest call.
