My Favorite Images / Praying Mantis with a Caterpillar

The Praying Mantises have two grasping, spiked forelegs in which prey items are caught and held securely. I photographed this one which had caught a caterpillar, but insects form are the primary diet. Mantises have been known to prey on small lizards, frogs, birds, snakes, fish, and even rodents; they will prey upon any species small enough to successfully capture and devour.
