Pileated Woodpecker

Pileated Woodpecker

This Pileated Woodpecker search for insects on this dead stump lasted only a few more seconds before launching into the air and disappearing into the forest. I was able to photographed this one in the Pisgah National Forest near Asheville, North Carolina

The Pileated Woodpecker is a very large North American woodpecker, almost crow-sized, inhabiting deciduous forests in eastern North America, the Great Lakes, the boreal forests of Canada, and parts of the Pacific coast. It is also the largest woodpecker in America.

Thank you for your time and interest in my work and as always all your comments are welcomed.
