Black-crowned Night Heron
The Black-crowned Night Heron is the second most widespread heron in North America. They have a black crown and back with the remainder of the body white or grey, red eyes, and short yellow legs. I photographed this bird one morning near the coast of North Carolina. They are easily spooked and are always very wary of their surrounding which can make them hard to photograph.
